SPI International/Filmbox International, a leading supplier of theatrical films and television programming in the international market continue to expand in Africa with the launch of eight FilmBox brand channels and FilmBox Live on demand service with Digitune Media Technologies.
FilmBox Africa, FilmBox Art House, FightBox, DocuBox, Fast&FunBox, FashionBox and 360TuneBox will be available on Digitune’s OTT/IPTV service in Nigeria.
With the launch of the FilmBox brand channels Digitune Media customers shall enjoy a variety of rich programming including a large selection of popular movies and TV series on FilmBoxAfrica including some of the popular BBC dramas, which SPI has recently acquired from the British supplier. Among those, viewers will get a chance to follow the adventures of The Musketeers and watch the Doctor Who series.
In addition to FilmBox Africa, SPI’s line-up includes one more movie channel. FilmBox Art House, which received the EUTELSAT TV Award in the Best Cinema category, presents world cinema masterpieces by such prominent directors as Kurosawa, Fellini or Hitchock in addition to the award-winning festival movies and independent productions.
Fight sports lovers will get a full doze of international martial arts content as well as live MMA and kickboxing events on FightBoxHD. Another sports channel in the bouquet is Fast&FunBoxHD, offering an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping medley of extreme sports, from car racing and motocross to snowboarding and skateboarding. DocuBoxHD brings the best documentary films covering nature, science, culture and human civilization. FashionBox HD channel is devoted to fashion and shopping. The subscribers in Nigeria will also have access to 360TuneBoxHD, a new music channel presenting independent, breakthrough artists and the art of music video from all over the world. Last but not least is MadscreenBox, a unique live, interactive channel with family-oriented games and entertainment.
"Digitune is going to be the first OTT/IPTV service in Nigeria to offer SPI International's TV channels. It will be a complementary service to the satellite services of Montage and Consat already operating in Nigeria and offering FilmBox channels,” explains Amit Karni, SPI International’s Head of Sales Africa.
Kino Polska TV S.A. Capital Group released its first quarter 2016 results. The total income exceeded PLN 5 mln, which is a 10% increase compared to the first three months of 2015.
The Group’s first quarter 2016 revenues from sales reached PLN 27.1 mln, 5% more than in the same period of 2015. This shift was predominantly driven by a 14% increase in the FilmBox channels’ sales results and nearly 13% higher revenue from advertising sales generated by the Kino Polska brand channels. Group’s EBIDTA margin for the period of January to March 2016 reached PLN 11.5 mln (3% increase year-on-year). For the three months of 2016, Kino Polska TV S.A. Capital Group reported net profit of PLN 5.3 mln.
In the first quarter of 2016 the Group increased expenditures on the acquisition of engaging content which has already resulted in higher viewing ratings. Furthermore, The National Broadcasting Council in Poland confirmed its earlier decision on granting a license to broadcast the Zoom TV channel within the MUX 8 digital terrestrial television multiplex. This validates an investment agreement signed by Kino Polska TV S.A. and the PIKSEL Foundation established by PIKE, the Polish Chamber for Electronic Communication. Zoom TV will be the second digital terrestrial television channel developed by the Kino Polska TV S.A. Capital Group.
Baltcom, the second largest telecommunication operator in Latvia, has recently launched five channels from the SPI International’s worldwide pay TV channel portfolio.
The SPI bouquet includes FilmBox, a movie channel which features a variety of Hollywood hits, European cinema and popular TV series from top international suppliers. True fans of world cinema will enjoy watching film masterpieces by such prominent directors as Kurosawa, Fellini or Hitchock, in addition to the award-winning festival movies presented on FilmBox Arthouse, an international film channel, which received the EUTELSAT TV Award in the Best Cinema category. FightBox HD is a martial arts channel with live broadcasts of major international MMA and kickboxing events. Another sports and lifestyle channel in the line-up is Fast&FunBox HD with extensive coverage of adrenaline sports from all over the world. Last but not least, DocuBox HD channel presents amazing documentaries and award-winning programming devoted to wild life, nature and human civilization. All five channels have Russian and English language feeds.
SPI widens channel distribution in the Baltic countries with several other deals. FightBox HD and Fast&Fun Box HD channels have been picked up by Media Centrs Kurzeme, while Elektrons&K offers FightBox HD and DocuBox HD. Both networks also operate in Latvia. Lithuanian cable TV operator UAB Splius has recently added FightBox HD to its thematic package.

SPI International has launched FUNBOX 4K/UHD on PostTV in Luxembourg. World’s first global TV channel with native 4K content is now available to PostTV viewers in the basic tier.
FUNBOX 4K/UHD is a premium, general entertainment TV channel which airs a mix of native 4K documentaries, performing arts programming, extreme adventure content as well as movies and TV series. The channel is broadcast from the Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD satellite.
FUNBOX 4K/UHD viewers are able to experience more nuance and detail, faster frame rates, exceptional contrast dynamics and extended colors. All of this with a little help from N7900, the new set-top box from Netgem, which Luxembourg's telco Post Luxembourg decided to launch now in order to have enough boxes in the field when 4K has become more widely available.
POST Luxembourg currently has over 40,000 IPTV subscribers in a market out of about 200,000 homes in total. The company offers 250 SD channels and 170 HD channels including 360 Tunebox HD in the basic, FilmBox Arthouse in the World pack, and Mediabox pack which contains DocuBox HD, FightBox HD, Fast&FunBox HD, FilmBox Arthouse and Eroxxx HD.
