KPN, the leading quad play provider in the Netherlands and SPI International announced that SPI’s FUNBOX/4K UHD channel will be part of a user-friendly trial that KPN started on June 21st to test its new 4K TV platform and 4K set-top box.
FUNBOX 4K/UHD will be the only linear Ultra HD channel to be offered at the beginning of the test launch of the new platform. SPI International’s state-of-the-art Ultra HD general entertainment channel was selected by KPN after having reviewed all linear 4K channels available on the market. At the end, the Dutch operator made FUNBOX 4K/UHD their final choice for the trial program, based on the superior visual quality of the channel.

With 1000 users participating in the trial, both KPN and SPI International will be able to better understand what viewers want to watch based on the different features of the set-top box.
FUNBOX 4K/UHD is a general entertainment Ultra HD channel presenting amazing premium native 4K footage that covers nature, travel, sports, adventure, lifestyle, performing arts and music.
SPI International/Filmbox will launch eight TV channels from the FilmBox portfolio on SIMU.tv in Tanzania, a Mobile TV platform of Push Mobile Media Company LTD.Mobile phone subscribers in Tanzania will be able to enjoy SIMU.tv service following a cooperation agreement signed between the two companies.
SIMU.tv, a mobile live TV and video-on-demand platform, will carry FilmBox Africa, FilmBox Art House, Fast & FunBox, FashionBox, DocuBox, and MadscreenBox. Having captured the Tanzania mobile video market, Push Mobile Media Ltd will make SPI’s channels available to more than 12 million potential viewers.

With the launch of the FilmBox channels, SIMU.tv subscribers shall enjoy a variety of rich programming including some of the popular BBC dramas, which SPI has recently acquired from the British supplier including The Musketeers and Doctor Who series, among many others.
True fans of world cinema will enjoy watching the masterpieces by such prominent directors as Kurosawa, Fellini or Hitchcock in addition to the award winning festival movies presented on FilmBox Art House, an international film channel which received Eutelsat TV Award in Best Cinema category.
The bouquet also features Fast&FunBox HD, a sports channel that presents an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping medley of extreme sports, from car racing and motocross to snowboarding and skateboarding. DocuBox HD brings the best documentary films covering nature, science, culture and human civilization. FashionBox HD channel is devoted to fashion and shopping. The TNT Sat subscribers will also enjoy MadscreenBox, a unique live, interactive channel with family-oriented games and entertainment.
Three SPI’s channels are featured on the recently launched multichannel, live and linear video streaming platform from BitTorrent.
BitTorrent Live app spans news, sports, music, tech, and youth culture. The line-up on the platform includes three channels from the SPI International’s portfolio.
FAST&FUNBOX HD: a television channel offering an action-packed, adrenaline-including medley of extreme sports, from car racing and motocross to snowboarding and skateboarding; a large variety of disciplines, shows and competitions from all over the world.
FIGHTBOX HD: A martial arts channel with multiple combat sports disciplines as well as live kickboxing and MMA events from Europe and the U.S.
FILMBOX ART HOUSE presents world cinema masterpieces by such prominent directors as Kurosawa, Fellini or Hitchock in addition to the award-winning festival movies and independent productions. Every month FilmBox Art House also airs special presentations devoted to a particular creative movement (German Expressionism, New Romanian Cinema, etc.) or individual filmmakers (The Surreal Art of Salvador Dali, Rossellini’s War Trilogy, etc.)
BitTorrent Live allows for large audiences to view live video with sub 10-second latency and without the need for an expensive CDN or pre-provisioning. With BitTorrent Live, every viewer is also a broadcaster. This allows the video stream to remain strong and for the broadcast to be as scalable as traditional Over-the-Air TV.

SPI/Filmbox signed a distribution deal with Bulgaria’s VIVACOM placing six Filmbox channels on VIVACOM’s DTH and IPTV platforms.
The channel lineup will include FilmBox Plus, FilmBox Extra HD, DocuBox HD, FightBox HD, Fast&FunBox HD and Eroxxx HD.
FilmBox Plus and FilmBox Extra HD present a huge variety of movies and TV series from world’s top producers. DocuBox HD offers an impressive selection of documentary films devoted to wild life, nature and human civilization. FightBox HD and Fast&FunBox HD are sports channels with a worldwide spectrum of martial arts and adrenaline sports. Eroxxx HD is an adult channel with erotic content.
